Because I was not prepared for this, I lost this claim that had very little merit.
I was going through a time where business was growing… I ran the company myself… and I had NO IDEA how to mitigate my risk against these types of claims. I did not get the services of an attorney because I thought I could handle it myself but the situation did not work out in my favor.
Eventually it got to be too much and I lost this business, which at the time was my most successful one. One night I was talking to one of my best friends, and I said “I am going to make sure that never happens to one of my businesses again, no matter what it takes”!
Well, many years later after finishing law school and opening my own practice, I can say that I have kept my promise to myself and made sure I did everything in my power to protect all my companies and business ventures from employee related claims.
My law firm since its inception primarily dealt with employers, business owners, and entrepreneurs. We mostly focused on legal contracts and business formations.
