How much does it cost to defend an employee lawsuit in California?

It depends on the type of claim, but most wage and hour defenses fall in a predictable range. We work on flat fees, hourly, and contingency depending on the case. Every consult starts free, so you'll know your options before you commit to anything.

How fast do I need to respond after being served?

California law generally gives you 30 days to respond to a civil complaint, 10 days for a DLSE wage claim appeal, and 33 days for many labor board notices. PAGA cases have a 65-day pre-suit window. Bottom line: respond within the first week or you lose strategic options.

Will my business name become public if I'm sued?

Civil lawsuits are public record once filed. But many claims (DLSE complaints, EEOC charges, PAGA notices) stay administrative and out of public court records if resolved early. The earlier we get involved, the more options you have to keep things quiet.

Can I counter-sue an employee who filed a frivolous claim?

In some cases, yes, especially when the employee caused real damages to your business. We've handled this successfully. But it's situation-specific. We'll tell you honestly whether a counter-claim makes strategic sense in your case.
